Reciting poetry requires much more than simply memorizing a poem. It’s important to also learn the meaning of the poem and to deliver it in a way that’s understandable and interesting to the listener. Follow these steps for tips on how you can.

Learning the Poem

1. Understand the poem. All poems have a literal meaning. Often, they also have a figurative meaning. You can try to analyze the poem yourself; but it’s probably far easier to read what others have said about it. From published criticisms you can learn about things such as themes, symbolism and voice. It’s also helpful to learn about the poet and what he or she was doing at the time the poem was written.
2. Memorize the poem. Most poems have a meter and rhyme scheme that make them easy to memorize.
3. Reformat the poem. Once you’ve learned all the lines of the poem, you’ll want to abandon the habit of progressing line by line and instead put the phrases together in a more natural way. Learn the poem again without relying on the sing-song rhythm that helped you initially memorize it. It may help to write the poem down as if it were prose.

Reciting the Poem

• Stand up straight and speak from your diaphragm. Remember to project your voice to the back of the audience. If you have a high-pitched voice, try using a deeper tone for the recitation.
• Slow down. The more you rush through your recitation, the less enjoyable it will be for your audience. Your listeners don’t have the advantage of having the written text in front of them, so you’ll have to give them time to absorb what they hear.
• Avoid eye contact. Unlike most other public speaking situations, when reciting poetry you want to seem to be lost in imagination. Look just over the heads of your listeners.
• Use drama. Vary your pitch and volume. Gesture. Pause for dramatic effect. You’ll need to be expressive if you want your audience to be moved by your recitation. The bigger your audience, the bigger that expression will have to be.

Tips & Warnings

• Have a friend sit in the front row with the text of your poem. If you have a lapse in memory, your friend can quietly remind you.
• If a critical analysis of the poem you’re reciting doesn’t accompany the text, visit your local library and ask for help.

10 Ritual Wajib Agar Kulit Terlihat Awet Muda

Manusia tak bisa menghindar dari usia tua. Tapi siapa bilang kita juga harus terlihat tua? Sepuluh hal berikut ini adalah hal yang wajib dilakukan secara rutin jika ingin kulit terlihat awet muda.

1. Hindari matahari
Setidaknya gunakan sunblock atau pelembab yang mengandung SPF sebelum kulit terpapar sinar matahari. Tanpa perlindungan, sinar matahari akan langsung mengenai kulit dan menyebabkan radikal bebas yang menghancurkan kolagen. Ini membuat kulit jadi cepat keriput.

2. Pelembab itu wajib
Meskipun wajah Anda berminyak, pelembab tetap harus digunakan untuk mencegah kulit kekurangan cairan. Pilihlah pelembab dan body lotion yang sesuai dengan jenis kulit Anda.

3. Olahraga
Cukup berolahraga 4 kali seminggu, dengan durasi 20 menit, kulit akan mendapat suplai oksigen ekstra dan sirkulasinya jadi lebih lancar. Ini membantu proses pengeluaran racun dari kulit, dan membuat kulit tetap sehat serta terlihat muda.

4. Cuci muka dengan rutin dan benar
Cucilah wajah di pagi hari dan malam hari. Pastikan di malam hari Anda sudah mencuci semua make-up yang menempel di wajah hingga benar-benar bersih. Selalu keringkan wajah dengan cara menepuk-nepuknya dengan handuk.

5. Pengelupasan
Kulit mati yang ada di wajah harus dienyahkan dengan cara menggunakan produk eksfoliasi. Seminggu sekali jika kulit Anda normal, dan dua minggu sekali jika kulit Anda berminyak dan mudah berjerawat.

6. Air putih
Kulit tak hanya butuh pelembab dari luar, tapi juga dari dalam melalui air mineral. Jika saat ini Anda belum minum air mineral minimal 1,5 liter perhari, mulailah dari sekarang.

7. Sempatkan facial
Tak perlu dilakukan mahal-mahal di salon. Cukup sediakan waktu untuk mengaplikasikan krim malam Anda sebelum tidur, namun sempatkan untuk memijat wajah sambil melakukannya. Atau pakailah masker wajah yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan kulit Anda.

8. Makan sehat
Hindari makanan yang mengandung trans fat yang biasa terdapat di makanan instan dan makanan siap saji. Perbanyak pula makan sayuran hijau yang mengandung antioksidan.

9. Jauhi rokok
Anda mungkin sudah bisa melihat buktinya, bahwa wanita perokok biasanya terlihat lebih tua dibandingkan yang bukan perokok. Asap rokok bisa merusak sel-sel kulit dan mempercepat proses penuaan.

10. Batasi kopi
Kafein membuat sel kulit lebih sulit menyerap air, meskipun Anda sudah meminum satu galon air mineral setiap harinya. Jika Anda tak bisa lepas dari kopi, batasi asupannya cukup satu cangkir setiap hari.

Ingin Bebas Kanker Sering Minum Kopi?

INILAH.COM, Jakarta – Sebuah penelitian baru menunjukkan, mengonsumsi lima cangkir kopi sehari dapat melindungi Anda dari serangan agresif kanker payudara. Benarkah?

Seperti diketahui, kanker payudara tidak bereaksi terhadap berbagai obat, karenanya kemoterapi sering kali menjadi satu-satunya pilihan. Kemoterapi ditakuti lantaran wanita tidak ingin penampilannya berubah buruk, misalnya risiko rambut rontok.

Para peneliti menyebutkan, mereka yang secara teratur menikmati minuman panas jauh lebih kecil kemungkinannya terkena estrogen reseptor kanker payudara negatif, terutama jika mereka minum lima cangkir atau lebih kopi dalam sehari.

Dalam studi itu, para ahli dari Institut Karolinska di Stockholm menemukan peminum kopi memiliki insiden lebih rendah dari kanker payudara dibandingkan perempuan yang jarang minum minuman. Mereka menganalisis data dari hampir 6.000 wanita yang melewati menopause.

Para wanita yang minum lima cangkir atau lebih sehari memiliki tingkat penurunan risiko kanker payudara 57% dibandingkan dengan mereka yang minum kurang dari satu cangkir sehari.

Berdasarkan laporan dalam jurnal Breast Cancer Research, para ilmuwan menyimpulkan bahwa tingginya tingkat asupan kopi per hari sangat terkait dengan penurunan signifikan secara statistik pada kanker payudara estrogen-reseptor negatif di kalangan perempuan pasca menopause.

Seperti dilansir Dailymail, para penulis juga menemukan sedikit penurunan risiko pada semua jenis kanker payudara. Walaupun kaitan ini tidak cukup signifikan dengan mempertimbangkan sejumlah faktor lain seperti usia dan berat badan yang harus turut diperhitungkan.

Para peneliti menduga kopi mengandung senyawa yang memengaruhi berbagai jenis kanker payudara dengan cara berbeda. Hal ini cocok dengan temuan bahwa minum kopi dapat mengurangi risiko kanker payudara secara keseluruhan, meskipun para ahli mengatakan studi lebih lanjut tetap diperlukan.
